My life was turned upside down when at the age of 39 my husband of almost 14 years was diagnosed with Large B Cell Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma of the bone marrow with a Cemic mutation. This basically meant that he had cancer in the bone marrow and because of this delightful mutation, it could change at any time and move to another part of the body.
My boys at the time were 10, 9 and 7; about to be 5th, 3rd and 1st graders. I was a fifth and sixth grade science teacher at a private school and my husband was working at UBS Financial. Life as we new it was pretty great. Pat's illness changed everything for us all. We fought for two years together before he passed away in my arms on Easter Sunday.
Since that day, I have been fighting my way back...back to life, back to normalcy, back to who I am now. It has been and remains quite a journey.
I spend my time now helping others. I am a counselor helping teenagers navigate adolescence, a mom of three teenage boys and a writer working on a book to help other widows.
